Get ready for a blend of wit, warmth, and the irresistible beat of Northern Soul music as Toby Parsons Productions, in association with Park Theatre, presents the premiere of (God Save My) Northern Soul. Written and performed by the talented Natasha Cottriall, this dark comedy about love, loss, and the iconic music genre runs at Park Theatre from Tuesday, September 9, to Saturday, September 20, 2025.

(God Save My) Northern Soul introduces us to 19-year-old Nicole, a mixed-race only child from Wigan, drifting through life with a college diploma, postponed university plans, and a job at River Island. Her mundane routine is upended when she unexpectedly inherits a house, a BMW, and even a sandwich shop. The play follows Nicole's hilarious and poignant journey as she grapples with newfound adulthood, guided (and sometimes misguided) by her strait-laced Catholic Gran, her chain-smoking best friend Sally, and the flamboyant Father Smithe. All the while, she's desperately clinging to the last vestiges of her teenage years and an equally desperate desire to lose her virginity. The narrative is richly underscored by classic Northern Soul tracks, promising a vibrant soundtrack to Nicole's coming-of-age.

Natasha Cottriall, an accomplished actress with credits including The Welkin (National Theatre) and roles in BBC's Shetland and ITV's Vera, makes her playwriting debut with this one-hour production. The show is directed by Hannah Tyrrell-Pinder, Joint Artistic Director of Box of Tricks Theatre company, known for her acclaimed touring productions like Narvik. Set design is by Alex Marker, with sound design by Chris James.

This compelling new work is part of Park Theatre’s Make Mine a Double format, championing bold new writing and emerging talent in their intimate Park90 space. Audiences can also book for Vermin, which runs on a double-bill.

Producer Toby Parsons shared his excitement: “Natasha is that rare breed - a supremely talented actress and a brilliant storyteller. This production has been a long time in the making and I can’t wait for audiences to experience this unique and touching tale of love, loss and Northern Soul.”

Tickets for (God Save My) Northern Soul are on sale now, with previews on September 9 and 10, and a press night on September 11. Prices start from £14.50. For booking and further information, visit parktheatre.co.uk.
