Theatr Clwyd is buzzing with excitement following the announcement of the full cast for the world premiere of Chris Ashworth-Bennion's debut play, "The Red Rogue of Bala." This hotly anticipated, darkly comic drama, running from November 3 to 22 at Theatr Clwyd, promises a gripping tale of power, community, and change, set against the ominous backdrop of impending war.
Under the direction of Dan Jones, Artistic Director of Cardiff's acclaimed The Other Room, the play delves into the notorious local legend of Coch Bach y Bala, a famous jailbreaker, poacher, and thief.
Leading the charge in the central role of Coch Bach y Bala is Simon Holland Roberts, known for his extensive career including Coronation Street and stage performances at the Donmar Warehouse and National Theatre Wales.
The ensemble boasts an impressive array of Welsh talent. Maxine Evans, recognizable from Stella, Call The Midwife, and Torchwood, joins the cast alongside Anglesey's own Julian Lewis Jones, whose screen credits include HBO's House of the Dragon, Justice League, and Invictus.
Further enhancing the cast are Rhys Ap Trefor (Pobol y Cwm, Hinterland), Wyn Bowen Harries (Rownd a Rownd, Coronation Street), Theo Woolford (Dial M For Mayhem, Alan Partridge), and Mia Khan (Mammoth, The Motive and the Cue). Making his professional Welsh stage debut is recent East 15 Acting School graduate Geraint De Carvalho. Completing the ensemble is Qasim Mahmood, with a strong theatre background including the RSC and Hampstead Theatre.
With a compelling story, a talented cast, and a renowned creative team, "The Red Rogue of Bala" is poised to be a significant theatrical event at Theatr Clwyd this autumn. Tickets are available now from theatrclwyd.com.
