The world premiere of A Knight’s Tale: The Musical has officially opened at Manchester Opera House, where it will run until 10 May. The dazzling new stage adaptation, based on the beloved 2001 Columbia Pictures film starring Heath Ledger and Paul Bettany, brings medieval mayhem to life with a bold, high-energy production bursting with humour, heart—and hits.

Adapted for the stage by Irish comedy writer and actor Brona C Titley, the production is helmed by award-winning director Rachel Kavanaugh, with choreography by Olivier Award-winner Matt Cole. The show reimagines the medieval world of jousting and chivalry through a modern lens—complete with a raucous, crowd-pleasing soundtrack of chart-topping rock anthems.

Andrew Coshan leads the cast as William Thatcher, the gutsy 14th-century peasant who dares to defy class and convention by posing as a nobleman to compete in the elite sport of jousting. Emily Benjamin stars as Kate, with Max Bennett bringing theatrical flair to Geoffrey Chaucer. Also featured are Emile Ruddock (Roland), Jay Saighal (Prince Edward), Eva Scott (What), Giles Taylor (Father), Oliver Tompsett (Count Adhemar), and Meesha Turner (Jocelyn).

The ensemble cast includes Robbie Alexander, Lauren Arney, Arcangelo Ciulla, Georgia Clements, Zac Frieze, Elliot Gooch, Gabriela Gregorian, Benedict Hastings, Danielle Huntley, Thomas Inge, Lisa Kerr, Zera Malvina-Aitken, Mehran James McCullough, Ryan North, Ryan Pidgen, and Chioma Uma.

A Knight’s Tale: The Musical tells the epic story of ambition, honour, and identity with a comedic twist. When William’s greatest rival, the villainous Count Adhemar, stands in the way of his dream to become World Champion, the stage is set for a climactic, lance-to-lance showdown. Packed with big laughs, bold performances, and a soundtrack guaranteed to have audiences rocking in their seats, this is a knight out like no other.

Tickets are now on sale at the Manchester Opera House box office.
