Some doors are better left closed. Or so we're told.

Set within the wonderfully atmospheric Battersea Arts Centre, 'Room 13' is a new horror experience combining supernatural storytelling with a few well-timed scares.

Inspired by the venue's real-life fire in 2015, the story centres on a mysterious sealed chamber and a secret society of paranormal investigators. What begins with an escape-room-style introduction soon shifts into an intimate theatrical performance.

The real highlight is the acting. Engaging and convincing, the performer brings the story to life, building suspense and keeping the audience on their toes.

Is it scary? That depends on how comfortable you are in the dark. There are a few jump scares, but seasoned horror fans are more likely to find it entertaining than terrifying.

The story builds intrigue nicely, even if the ending doesn't quite match the strength of the build-up. Still, the atmosphere, performance and fantastic setting make for an enjoyable experience.

At just 35 minutes, 'Room 13' offers a short but entertaining dose of Halloween horror. It probably won't haunt your dreams, but for around £20, it's a fun, affordable thrill in one of London's most characterful venues.

'Room 13' runs at Battersea Arts Centre until 1 November 2026.
