Alexandra Palace is always a pleasure to visit. Assured parking, wonderful views, state of the art theatre and an adjoining playground & lake, a veritable parenting heaven. So, it was in high spirits we took our seats beneath the expansive ceiling as the two-minute LED countdown began.

The audience last ten second countdown heralded special guest Meekah who cycled onto the stage to sing two of her favourite songs before our orange and blue clad youtube sensation, Blippi, took to the stage.

Launching straight into a series of songs Blippi danced in front of three large screens that provided the entire set save his car stage left. He was noticeably gruffer than the character we were used to. There’s no storyline to speak of, one song leading on to the next. The dancing is on-point and Blippi sings throughout although there are only so many times Blippi and his cohorts can jump around to a new tune before they all sound the same, not only to me but clearly my three-year old, who I had to work very hard to stop from nodding off.

This eager audience may be young, but the addition of a storyline would have helped grab the attention and would also hopefully add the odd joke. Blippi: The Wonderful World Tour should really be renamed Blippi: The Wonderful World Concert Tour, as that is what it is. Luckily the Monster Truck Song saved the day along with the Excavator Song show climax. The yellow digger the runaway star of the show.

Blippi's affable nature and infectious enthusiasm were on display as he sang his catchy tunes and danced with boundless energy, although the show was a paler more sterile reflection of his previous London outing which followed the more usual story driven theatrical route.
