Bud’da Joins New Sesame Street Show ‘Mecha Builders’
EMMY-Award winning producer Bud’da can now add Sesame Street to his extensive music career. The multi-platinum selling music producer wrote and produced the new theme song to the Sesame Street spin-off ‘Mecha Builders’ starring family favorites Elmo, Cookie Monster and Abby, streaming on the Cartoon Network and HBO Max.
Known for revitalizing the sound of West Coast gangster rap in the mid-’90s by producing the double-platinum selling masterpiece Bow Down, Bud’da brought in Grammy-winning singer-songwriter-producer Eric Bellinger and legendary “I Love Your Smile” singer Shanice to give the song the vibrant mixture of electronic music and hip-hop.
We caught up with Bud’da to find out more...
Tell us about the theme song for the new Sesame Street show, Mecha BuildersI am excited to talk about the theme song for the new show Mecha Builders, I think it shows my diversity in style. The song is written and produced by myself and performed by Eric Bellinger and Shanice, I’m proud to say that it is one of my best works, it’s a mixture or fusion of electronic music and hip-hop! It feels good to have music that people can enjoy from eight years old to eighty!
What was your creative process for the song?I did at least eight different versions of the theme song in order for the one that exists now to be chosen. One of the main instruments that I chose to use is a VST named Serum some of the bass sounds in that plug-in inspired me to do the melody for the final version of the theme song, it’s grimy, it’s big, and it’s funky! I also chose a disco string hit to use throughout the song that helps to weave everything together, my favorite part is when the song modulates to a higher key! That just made the energy go through the roof it made it a great way to end this song.
As it relates to the lyrics there were three main words that production wanted to be incorporated, plan it, test it, solve it!

From Ice Cube to Cookie Monster, how does it feel?I couldn’t have imagined in 1 million years that I would be doing songs for, not just a company, but for characters that I enjoyed when I was growing up, I love cookies! So, for me to write songs for Cookie Monster is awesome!
It’s incredible to learn you write the music on so many hit TV shows and movies. What have been some of your more recents?Yes, I have been busy creating and producing music on multiple TV shows like ‘Swagger’, ‘Ravens Home’, ‘The Chi’ and ‘Our Kind of People’ to name a few.
What’s up next for you?I have an upcoming pair of songs that I wrote for Cookie Monster as well as two songs for a Sesame Street campaign called ‘Coming Together’, I also just finished an episode for a TV series called ‘Roll Call’, it focuses on West Coast skating culture.
