Theatre enthusiasts worldwide can now immerse themselves in the rich score of ‘Jo - The Little Women Musical’, as its highly anticipated studio cast recording has been released globally today by Little Women Enterprises LLC and Center Stage Records. This new musical adaptation breathes fresh life into Louisa May Alcott’s timeless coming-of-age novel, promising a vibrant and emotionally resonant experience for a new generation.
With music by Dan Redfeld and a book and lyrics by Christina Harding and John Gabriel Koladziej, ‘Jo - The Little Women Musical’ offers a sweeping cinematic score and a narrative that challenges audiences to consider if they too will have the courage to write their own story. The musical aims to elevate Alcott’s cherished tale, bringing the March sisters’ journey into sharp focus with a contemporary sensibility.
The studio album, a testament to the production's ambition, was meticulously recorded at London’s iconic Abbey Road Studios. It features a lush 29-piece orchestra and an impressive roster of talent drawn from both Broadway and the West End. The recording was co-produced by five-time Grammy nominee and three-time Emmy winner Nigel Wright, alongside composer Dan Redfeld.
The cast boasts an array of acclaimed performers, including Tony Award® winner Laura Benanti as Marmee March, two-time Tony Award® winner Christine Ebersole as Aunt March, and Olivier-nominated West End and Broadway star Julian Ovenden as Father. Grammy-nominated Christine Allado takes on the pivotal role of Jo March, while West End favorite Kelly Mathieson plays Meg March. Other notable names include Bob Gunton, Sophie Pollono, Eleanor Grant, Rob Houchen, Chris Mann, Liam Tamne, Tobias Turley, and Miyuki Miyagi.
Nigel Wright expressed his enthusiasm for the project, stating, "I have to say this album is glorious and a real highlight in my career. Simply stunning!" Composer Dan Redfeld added, "The Jo album is a magical listening experience. We are excited for the world to hear Jo and the brilliance of the studio cast and orchestra on this recording, which is literally the complete show."
The album is now available on all major streaming platforms, including Spotify, iTunes, Apple Music, and Amazon Music. For those eager to perform the music, sheet music for several key songs, including “Fly Away” and “My Captive Heart,” is also available. Fans can look forward to a semi-staged concert presentation of the full show in London at a future date, directed by JoAnn M. Hunter.
