First-look production photography has been released for Marianne Elliott’s electrifying new staging of Edward Albee’s masterpiece, Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?. Produced by Sonia Friedman Productions and Winkler & Smalberg in association with Nica Burns, the high-profile production is currently running in the West End at @sohoplace through 19 December 2026.
The landmark production stars Emmy and Golden Globe winner Gillian Anderson as Martha alongside Tony Award winner Billy Crudup as her sparring husband George. The core quartet is completed by Josh Dylan as the ambitious young professor Nick and Phoebe Horn as his unsuspecting wife Honey. The company also includes understudies Alex Cartuson, Jessica Kirton, Georgia Miles, and Simon Willmont.
Helmed by three-time Olivier and Tony Award-winning director Marianne Elliott, this fierce revival is staged entirely in-the-round. Set designer Miriam Buether has crafted an intimate configuration that draws every audience member straight into the epicenter of George and Martha's volatile world. The distinguished creative team supporting Elliott includes lighting designer James Farncombe, sound designer Ian Dickinson, movement and intimacy director Ingrid Mackinnon, voice coach Charmian Hoare, and fight director Sam Lyon-Behan.
Set in the early hours of the morning on a quiet American college campus, Albee's modern classic unfolds as George and Martha host an after-party for newcomer Nick and his wife Honey. As the alcohol flows and dawn approaches, the night descends into a series of toxic psychological games, forcing the young couple into Martha and George's devastating web of truth and illusion.
