Producers have announced an extension for the world premiere production of Affluenza at London’s Riverside Studios due to strong initial box office demand ahead of previews beginning this weekend.
Written and directed by Andy Sandberg, the play serves as the opening production for Riverside Studios’ Mainstage 26/27 Season. Originally scheduled for a shorter engagement, the run has now been extended through Saturday, 28 November 2026, with an official press night scheduled for Monday, 5 October.
The production stars Noah Schnapp (Stranger Things) in his professional stage debut, alongside Janette Manrara (Strictly Come Dancing), Rupert Young (Bridgerton, Dear Evan Hansen), Juliet Cowan (Broken Glass), Wallis Currie-Wood (Madam Secretary), and Donald Sage Mackay (Girl from the North Country).
Inspired by real-world legal controversies, Affluenza is set within the affluent social enclave of the Hamptons. The story follows the aftermath of a fatal drunk-driving incident involving a wealthy teenager, questioning whether extreme financial privilege can impair a person's ability to distinguish right from wrong. The narrative examines themes of moral accountability, family legacy, and systemic privilege within the justice system.
The creative team includes set designer Charlie Corcoran, costume and associate set designer Hannah Schmidt, lighting designer Jack Weir, sound designer Emily Drohan, and composer Will Van Dyke. Nicholas Hockaday handles casting, with DEM Productions serving as general manager.
Affluenza marks the first of five new plays in a major season directed by Sandberg at Riverside Studios. The lineup continues in December with the world premiere of Tom Schulman’s Sacrilegious, followed by Scott Elmegreen and Drew Fornarola’s Expecting in January 2027.
