Cameron Mackintosh has announced that the West End production of Boublil and Schönberg’s legendary musical Les Misérables has extended its run at London's Sondheim Theatre (previously Queens Theatre), taking the show through its record-breaking 42nd year. Tickets for performances are now on sale through to 2 October 2027.
The current West End cast stars Ian McIntosh as Jean Valjean, Oliver Savile as Javert, Stefanie Jones as Fantine, Harry Hepple as Thénardier, and Mina Anwar as Madame Thénardier. The leading lineup also features Jess Folley as Éponine, Thiago Phillip Felizardo as Marius, Joe Griffiths-Brown as Enjolras, and Lucia McLaughlin as Cosette.
The news follows a landmark year for the world's longest-running musical. Last summer, Les Misérables: The Arena Concert Spectacular concluded its global tour, performing to over 1.3 million people across 35 international cities.
Meanwhile, the official Spanish-language production Los Miserables continues its acclaimed run at the Teatro Apolo in Madrid, recently sweeping four national Talía Awards including Best Musical.
In May 2026, First Night Records released Les Misérables: The 40th Anniversary All-Star Cast, a definitive double CD and digital recording of Mackintosh’s production.
Seen by over 150 million people in 57 countries and translated into 22 languages, the stage phenomenon has earned more than 275 major global accolades. These include five Olivier Awards, eight Tony Awards, and most recently, Best West End Show at the 2026 WhatsOnStage Awards.
Based on the novel by Victor Hugo, Les Misérables features music by Claude-Michel Schönberg, lyrics by Herbert Kretzmer, and original French text by Alain Boublil and Jean-Marc Natel. The production is co-directed by Laurence Connor and James Powell, with set design by Matt Kinley inspired by the paintings of Victor Hugo.
