Sonia Friedman Productions, in association with Nica Burns, has announced the full company casting and the release of 5,500 front row seats for the upcoming West End production of Edward Albee’s Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?. Directed in-the-round by multi-award-winner Marianne Elliott, the production begins rehearsals this week ahead of its run at @sohoplace from 21 September to 19 December 2026, with press night set for Wednesday 30 September.
Emmy and Golden Globe winner Gillian Anderson stars as Martha alongside Tony Award winner Billy Crudup as George. The principal cast is completed by Josh Dylan as Nick and Phoebe Horn as Honey, with understudies Alex Cartuson, Jessica Kirton, Georgia Miles, and Simon Willmont.
Designed in-the-round by Miriam Buether, the intimate staging draws audiences directly into the center of Albee's fierce masterpiece. The dark comedy-drama follows long-married couple George and Martha on the campus of an American college as they host a younger couple, Nick and Honey, for late-night drinks. As alcohol flows into the early hours, the guests become ensnared in George and Martha's destructive psychological games, building toward a devastating climax of emotional truth.
The creative team features lighting design by James Farncombe, sound design by Ian Dickinson, movement and intimacy direction by Ingrid Mackinnon, voice and dialect coaching by Charmian Hoare, fight direction by Sam Lyon-Behan, and casting by Jim Carnahan, CSA, and Liz Fraser, CSA. The West End engagement is produced by Sonia Friedman Productions and Winkler & Smalberg, alongside Nica Burns.
The production marks another high-profile staging for @sohoplace in its fourth year as the West End's newest purpose-built theatre.
