The Gilbert Twins officially premiere their brand-new musical comedy, Under the Influence, tonight at the Dairy Room in Underbelly Bristo Square. Running through 30 August 2026 at 9:20 pm, the show brings viral creators Carine and Frances Gilbert back to their musical theatre roots following their massive success online.
Best known as @thegilberttwins to more than three million followers across social media, identical twins Carine and Frances star in an original production drawn directly from their real-life experiences of attending couples therapy together. The narrative follows the sisters as the world's most codependent non-couple landing in a therapeutic setting. What begins as a session quickly erupts into a high-energy musical intervention and personal reckoning that threatens to unravel their lifelong partnership.
Loud, ridiculous, and unexpectedly heartfelt, Under the Influence explores the complex chaos of sisterhood, the relentless pressure of online fame, and the search for individual identity. The production features a book and lyrics co-written by Carine and Frances Gilbert, alongside an original score composed by Shona Maule, who also provides lyrics and musical direction. The trio performs the show live on stage together.
Directed by Georgie Rankcom, the creative team includes associate director Michelle Payne and lighting designer Tom Turner. Production photography capturing the performance has been released, with imagery captured by photographer Marina Solar Fernandez for Neon Eye.
By translating their digital presence into a dynamic theatrical narrative, the creators offer audiences an intimate look behind the screen at the realities of shared artistic careers. The limited season provides Fringe festivalgoers with an opportunity to experience the duo's signature comedic style and musical talents in an intimate live setting.
