‘My caravan, my rules. Anywhere else, and it’s everyone else’s rules.’ From a Nicaraguan coffee shop, Sophie Lovell nosedives into the merry land of make-believe. Confronted with more facts than fiction, old wounds are revisited as she questions what it means to be Romany.
Having received writing support from the award-winning Romany Theatre Company, Caravan Tea Party marks Lauren Derry’s playwriting debut after graduating from Drama Studio London with an MA in Professional Acting last July. The play explores themes of identity, culture, family and bereavement. You can expect silly puppets, 00s references, drama, and comedic relief, all while searching for a missing Caravan.
Lauren Derry: “I’m super excited to share this story at Camden Fringe. While interest in Gypsy, Roma & Travellers stories is growing it is rarer still to find stories about the community by people with lived experience of it.”
Lauren will play Sophie Lovell and multi-role. Professional credits include: Hermia, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Westacre Theatre & Scarecrow, The Wizard of Oz, UK Tour. Credits whilst training: Annie Loader, Dr Jekyll & Mr Hyde & Lady Reveller, The Basset Table.
Hannah Nox, also a 2025 Drama Studio London graduate, will play Robyn and Puppet Louise. Professional credits include: Abby, This is How We Do War, short film. Credits whilst training: Hugo Fraser-Tyrwhitt, Posh & Ensign Lovely, The Basset Table.
