Michael Harrison for Lloyd Webber Harrison Musicals has released the first official production photography of Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s iconic rock opera, Jesus Christ Superstar. The acclaimed staging stars vocal powerhouse Sam Ryder making his highly anticipated theatrical debut as Jesus. Captured by photographer Johan Persson, the images offer a spectacular first glimpse into the brand-new, large-scale revival.

The production is currently running a limited 11-week season at The London Palladium, playing until September 5, 2026, with the official opening night scheduled for July 7. Due to immense ticket demand, producers have already confirmed a 12-week extension. The musical will transfer to the Theatre Royal Drury Lane, running from October 16, 2026, to January 9, 2027, before embarking on an extensive UK tour throughout 2027.

Ryder is joined on the Palladium stage by a stellar principal cast, including Tyrone Huntley as Judas Iscariot, Desmonda Cathabel as Mary Magdalene, and David Thaxton as Pontius Pilate. In a unique casting twist, the role of King Herod is being shared across the summer run by an alternating lineup of star talent, featuring Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Richard Armitage, Boy George, Layton Williams, and Julian Clary. The winter transfer to Drury Lane will see a new rotation of Herods, including Matt Bomer, Rob Brydon, Reece Shearsmith, Bob The Drag Queen, Michael Ball, and Simon Russell Beale.

The production reunites the visionary creative team behind the celebrated 2016 Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre staging. Directed by Tim Sheader, the musical features high-energy choreography by Olivier Award-winner Drew McOnie and striking set designs by Tony and Olivier Award-winner Tom Scutt.

Jesus Christ Superstar dramatizes the final days of Jesus Christ’s life through the perspective of Judas Iscariot. The classic score remains deeply rooted in rock music, featuring legendary theatrical numbers like "I Don’t Know How to Love Him," "Gethsemane," and the triumphant title track. To coincide with the show's launch, Ryder's new studio recordings of "Gethsemane" and "What's The Buzz?" have been released on all major music streaming platforms.
