The London Theatre Company has confirmed complete casting and released the first rehearsal room photographs for its upcoming production of The Oresteia. Written and directed by acclaimed theatre-maker Simon Stone, the production offers a striking contemporary adaptation inspired by the classic tragedies of Aeschylus and other historical texts. The strictly limited eleven-week engagement is scheduled to begin previews at the Bridge Theatre on July 2, 2026, ahead of an official opening press night on July 14.
The highly anticipated production features a star-studded international company. Two-time Tony Award winner Mary-Louise Parker stars as Montie, performing alongside David Morrissey as Christopher, Tom Glynn-Carney as Augie, and Olivier Award nominee Rosie Sheehy as Alice. The newly finalized ensemble features Lloyd Hutchinson in the role of Melville, John Macmillan as Jerome, Archie Madekwe as Lorenzo, Alyth Ross as Jenny, and Rakhee Thakrar as Chandra. The acting company is completed by understudies Seán Donegan, George Renshaw, Andy Umerah, Emily Waters, and Kirsty Yates.
Stone's modern reinterpretation explores the harrowing descent of a contemporary family that unexpectedly awakens within the confines of a brutal Greek myth, finding themselves entirely unable to escape a predetermined, hellish destiny. The production marks a collaborative creative venture between the London Theatre Company and producer Wouter van Ransbeek.
The premium backstage creative team features set design by Lizzie Clachan, an original musical score composed by Stefan Gregory, lighting design by Nick Schlieper, sound design by Peter Rice, and costume design by Emma White. Jessica Ronane serves as the casting director, supported by associate director Benedict Crosby.
The innovative Bridge Theatre auditorium will be specially configured to accommodate the unique spatial demands of the production. The staging schedule also includes dedicated accessible performances throughout the late summer season, featuring an audio-described performance and touch tour on August 22, a captioned matinee on August 29, and a British Sign Language integrated performance on September 12. The Oresteia will run in London through to its final scheduled performance on September 19, 2026.
