Grace Dickson Productions has officially announced the upcoming run of "You’re So Special," a razor-sharp new dark comedy written and performed by acclaimed theatre-maker Julia Grogan. Directed and developed alongside Rachel Lemon, the surreal solo show is scheduled to run at London's Soho Theatre Upstairs from September 3 through September 26, 2026.
Set against the unique and quirky backdrop of a local baby ballet class, the bold production explores over-ambition, contemporary celebrity culture, and the crushing psychological pressures of millennial burnout. The narrative centers on Miss June, a struggling performer and dance instructor who genuinely believes her life is on the verge of a massive breakthrough after landing a coveted spot on a television talent show.
However, when her final shot at mainstream fame abruptly vanishes, June finds herself right back where she started, trapped in a crumbling village hall drilling basic dance routines into a room full of energetic toddlers. Refusing to let her artistic dreams die, she pours her remaining energy into the dance school's intense end-of-term showcase, single-handedly transforming a standard children's recital into a life-or-death quest for personal glory. As the lines between teacher and pupil begin to blur, she is forced to confront the terrifying possibility that she might just be ordinary.
The production reunites the formidable creative partnership of Grogan and Lemon, who previously won critical acclaim as the co-creators of the award-winning hit "Gunter" at the Royal Court Theatre. Grogan, whose debut play "Playfight" earned five-star reviews from The Times, has been widely praised by industry figures, with Phoebe Waller-Bridge declaring her "who we’ve been waiting for." Meanwhile, Lemon brings extensive directorial experience to the project, fresh off her tenure as an associate director with the National Theatre.
The 65-minute production promises to be an outrageous and unsettling exploration of a generation raised on the promise of infinite potential. Tickets for the limited September engagement are officially available through the main Soho Theatre box office.
