Following a highly successful, critically acclaimed national tour, national treasure Dame Maureen Lipman is set to make her triumphant return to the West End. She will star in Allegra, a heartwarming new comedy penned by two-time Olivier Award-nominated playwright Peter Quilter. The production will play a strictly limited engagement at the Harold Pinter Theatre from Wednesday 8 July to Saturday 8 August.

The production reunites Dame Maureen with director and choreographer Stephen Mear, a three-time Olivier Award winner, marking their first collaboration since the National Theatre's landmark staging of Oklahoma! nearly three decades ago. The West End cast also features John Middleton, Elizabeth Bower, and Bailey Patrick.

The story centers on Allegra, a woman whose overwhelming inner joy frequently causes her to burst spontaneously into song, creating affectionate chaos within her local village. While her eccentricities leave her brother and carer scrambling to manage the disruptions, the piece offers a deeply moving exploration of a beautiful mind alongside spectacular song and dance sequences. Commenting on the production, Dame Maureen noted the rarity of finding a comedy capable of turning gloom into happiness, describing her character as relentlessly upbeat.

Playwright Peter Quilter expressed his pride in having one of the country's greatest theatrical treasures bring the title character to life, while producer Thomas Hopkins called the London transfer a privilege following his previous West End success with Lipman in Rose.

The creative team features set and costume design by Justin Williams, lighting by Samuel Biondolillo, sound by Russell Ditchfield, and video design by Ben Bull. The show is produced by Thomas Hopkins Productions, SAMS Entertainment, Melissa & Bradford Coolidge, and Trunfio McGill.

Performances at the Pinter Theatre will run daily, with a national press night scheduled for Thursday 9 July. Tickets for all performances throughout the limited summer season start from £20, with bookings now open to the general public.
