Hackney Empire has announced that a new generation of East London talent will step onto a global platform this June. The venue’s Young Producers, a cohort of creatives aged 14 to 21, have co-curated an official music showcase for South by Southwest (SXSW) London 2026. Titled Alternate Verses, the showcase is scheduled for Friday, June 5, at 7 pm at Dream Bags Jaguar Shoes.
This milestone comes at a significant time for the organization as it approaches its 125th anniversary. Additionally, its landmark Creative Futures programme is preparing to celebrate 25 years of supporting young people in the arts in 2027. The upcoming showcase highlights the long-term impact of these initiatives, which support thousands of young people across East London annually.
The lineup for Alternate Verses features several boundary-pushing artists:
Alana Bubba: A rising artist and Creative Futures alumna whose soulful sound reflects her journey from programme participant to professional.
V.I.C: A rapper recognized for sharp, introspective lyricism.
00ab: A producer known for blending raw energy with experimental electronic textures.
VNSA: An alt-R&B artist specializing in atmospheric and emotionally charged soundscapes.
The partnership with SXSW London also includes professional development opportunities beyond performance. Alumnus Merch Husey currently holds a newly created, paid Music Industry Coordinator role, working directly with the festival’s music team to support international delegates and events.
Fatima Sheekhuna, Learning and Participation Producer at Hackney Empire, noted that the showcase demonstrates what happens when young people are given the space to lead. As the venue looks toward its 125th year, Alternate Verses serves as a celebration of the young people who are actively shaping the future of culture. The event promises to highlight London’s emerging talent at a pivotal moment in their burgeoning careers.
