TuckShop, the UK’s premier production house for drag excellence, has announced its most ambitious project to date: an all-drag, gritty reimagining of Shakespeare’s Macbeth. Set to open at London’s Emerald Theatre on April 24, 2026, Category Is: Macbeth promises a fierce, hard-hitting take on the "Scottish Play," performed in its original text but drenched in the neon-soaked paranoia of 1980s London. Tickets available below.
A Powerhouse Cast
The production features a formidable lineup of drag icons, headlined by two RuPaul’s Drag Race UK champions. Ginger Johnson (Season 5 winner and Celebrity MasterChef star) takes on the titular role of Macbeth, while the recently crowned Kyran Thrax (Season 6 winner) stars as the calculating Lady Macbeth.
The supporting cast is a "who’s who" of the drag and theater circuit:
The Three Witches: Portrayed by Yshee Black, Cyro, and Daniel Jacobs (Vinegar Strokes).
Banquo: Played by Dragula and Coronation Street star Anna Phylactic.
King Duncan: Brought to life by the versatile Richard Energy.
Macduff: Played by the "AFAB" pioneer and Death Drop star Victoria Scone.
Synth-Pop and Subversion
Directed by TuckShop founder Chris Clegg, the production transports the tragedy to the shadows of Soho’s 80s backrooms. In a world where queerness is criminalized and masculinity is policed, the play explores drag as a form of survival and rebellion. The atmosphere is defined by the pulsing synth-pop of Depeche Mode, Soft Cell, and the Pet Shop Boys, underscored by the constant threat of police sirens and street riots.
"Drag is powerful and raw, and it has been a part of theater since this play first existed," says Clegg. "Marrying the world of 1980s London and the Scottish play makes so much sense. To work with two Drag Race winners who are both Shakespeare lovers is a thrilling challenge."
Tickets and Details
Running from April 24 to May 28, 2026, this 18+ production promises a blood-soaked exploration of power and persecution where "wigs slip, crowns are stolen, and blood is impossible to wash out under club lighting."
