The vibrant life of a global icon takes center stage this month as I’m Every Woman – The Chaka Khan Musical makes its highly anticipated London premiere. Opening at the Hackney Empire from 20–25 March 2026, the production offers a raw, unapologetic look at the woman behind the multi-platinum legend. Taking on the mantle of the "Queen of Funk" is multi-platinum recording artist and stage veteran Alexandra Burke. Known for her acclaimed turns in The Bodyguard and Sister Act, Burke leads a formidable cast in portraying Chaka Khan’s journey from the civil rights movement to global superstardom. At the Hackney Empire, she is joined by Jordan Frazier (of Hamilton fame) as the alternate Chaka Khan.

The production features a sprawling ensemble of theatrical talent portraying an array of music legends, including:

Miles Anthony Daley as Prince/Richard Holland
Samuel Sarpong-Broni as Stevie Wonder
Sophie Earl as Joni Mitchell
Duane-Lamonte O'Garro as Luther Vandross

Written by Nia T. Hill and directed by Racky Plews, the musical transcends the typical "jukebox" format by tackling the complexities of Khan’s personal life. It explores her defiance against a toxic music industry, her harrowing battles with addiction, and the balancing act of being a working mother—all while maintaining her status as a fierce advocate for social justice.

Fans can expect a sonic journey through her greatest hits with Rufus and as a solo artist. The score includes timeless anthems such as "Ain’t Nobody," "I Feel For You," "Sweet Thing," and the titular "I’m Every Woman."

Produced by Adrian Grant Productions in direct association with Chaka Khan herself, the musical ensures an authentic tribute to her legacy. With choreography by Ebony Clarke and musical supervision by Mark Crossland, this production promises to be a high-energy celebration of resilience, purpose, and the "fire" that defined a generation of music.
