The psychological supernatural thriller DEATH NOTE: THE MUSICAL has officially become a West End phenomenon before its first curtain call. Following its announcement for a strictly limited run at the Barbican Theatre, the entire first week of performances sold out within just 24 hours, making it the fastest-selling summer season in the venue's history.
A Global Phenomenon
Based on the best-selling Japanese manga by Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata, the musical has already enjoyed a decade of sold-out success across Asia. Sir Howard Panter, Joint CEO of Trafalgar Entertainment, remarked on the "extraordinary response," noting that the international fanbase's excitement is driving ticket sales at record speed.
The production features a heavyweight creative team, including:
Music: Tony, Grammy, and Emmy nominee Frank Wildhorn (Jekyll & Hyde, Bonnie & Clyde)
Lyrics: Tony nominee Jack Murphy
Book: Emmy nominee Ivan Menchell
Direction: Stephen Whitson (Hamilton UK)
The Battle of Wits
The story follows Light Yagami, a brilliant student who discovers a notebook that grants him the power to kill anyone whose name he writes within its pages. As Light attempts to create a "new world" by eliminating criminals, he is pursued by the enigmatic master detective L. This reimagined production promises a "definitive theatrical incarnation" of the story, featuring a revised script and newly written songs.
Strictly Limited Season
The production opens on 30 July 2026, with a highly anticipated press night on 11 August. Due to the high demand, fans are encouraged to book immediately for the remaining five weeks of the run, which concludes on 12 September.
