Ten years after a sixteen-year-old boy from a Sheffield council estate first stepped into the spotlight at the Crucible Theatre, the sensation that redefined the modern British musical is returning to its roots. Producer Nica Burns has officially announced the 10th Anniversary Tour of Everybody’s Talking About Jamie, set to commence in January 2027.
This milestone production isn’t just a revival; it’s an evolution. For the first time, audiences will hear a brand-new song penned specifically for this tour by the original creative team, lead singer-songwriter of The Feeling Dan Gillespie Sells and writer Tom MacRae.
The tour will celebrate a decade of "sass-filled magic" by opening at the Leeds Grand Theatre on 15 January 2027. From there, Jamie New will dance his way across the UK, with confirmed stops in Manchester, Glasgow, Liverpool, Birmingham, and Sheffield, among others. Since its 2017 debut, the show has conquered the West End, inspired an award-winning film, and played on every inhabited continent. This upcoming trek, however, is being teased as a final homecoming for the character in the UK.
"Jamie’s courage in unveiling himself in all his glorious, fabulous joy has been applauded by millions," said the original creative trio of Jonathan Butterell, Dan Gillespie Sells, and Tom MacRae. "We are so excited to bring a new Jamie and Margaret back together and out into UK theatres... in the place where we belong."
The story, inspired by the true-life journey of Jamie Campbell, follows a teenager who overcomes prejudice and bullying to step out of the darkness and into the spotlight. Critics have hailed it as a "sparkling coming-of-age musical" (The Times) that "blows the roof off the theatre" (Mail on Sunday).
Casting for the anniversary production is yet to be announced, but fans can expect a "sparkling" new company to breathe life into the iconic roles of Jamie, his loving mum Margaret, and the legendary local drag queens.
