In a major coup for London’s fringe theatre scene, BAFTA winners Ben Whishaw and Aimee Lou Wood are set to headline a star-studded fundraising reading of Dennis Kelly’s debut play, Debris. The exclusive event will take place on 4 March 2026 at The Cinema in the Power Station, marking a high-profile homecoming for the play that launched Kelly’s career.
Staged over two decades since its premiere at Theatre503, Debris introduced the world to the dark, distinctive voice of the man who would go on to write Matilda The Musical and Utopia. In this special script-in-hand performance, Whishaw and Wood will take on the roles of siblings Michael and Michelle, navigating the play’s surreal and visceral family history.
The evening serves as a vital fundraiser for Theatre503, the UK’s only venue dedicated exclusively to debut playwrights. Artistic Director Anthony Simpson-Pike and Executive Director Emily Carewe described the event as both a "celebration of our past and a rallying cry for what comes next," highlighting the theatre’s role as a primary launchpad for British writing talent.
Beyond the performance, the night will feature a Q&A with the cast and special guests, focusing on the critical importance of supporting new voices in the industry. All proceeds from the £85 tickets will go directly toward Theatre503’s mission of nurturing emerging writers.
Priority booking for Theatre503 Friends and Patrons opens at 10 am on 4 February, with general sale following on 11 February. Members will also gain access to an exclusive post-show drinks reception at the iconic Battersea venue.
As a "small but mighty" theatre that has consistently punched above its weight, Theatre503’s return to its roots with two of the UK’s most celebrated actors promises to be a landmark moment in the 2026 theatrical calendar.
