Producers Wessex Grove and Gavin Kalin Productions have unveiled the full cast for the highly anticipated 50th Anniversary West End revival of David Hare’s seminal play, Teeth 'N' Smiles. Joining the previously announced Rebecca Lucy Taylor (better known as the Mercury Prize-nominated Self Esteem) are stage and screen veterans Phil Daniels and Michael Fox.
Directed by Daniel Raggett, this "rebel play" is set to ignite the Duke of York’s Theatre for a strictly limited 12-week run from 13 March to 6 June 2026.
The story follows Maggie Frisby (Taylor), the roaring voice of 1960s counterculture. Once a symbol of anarchic rebellion, Maggie is now broke, disillusioned, and navigating the wreckage of a collapsing band. Fueled by booze and fury, she remains a powerhouse presence in a world that has moved on. David Hare, reflecting on the revival, remarked, "It’s thrilling for me to watch Rebecca Lucy Taylor and a brilliant ensemble revive the play that shook the plaster off the ceiling of the Royal Court Theatre just fifty years ago."
Phil Daniels, an icon of British grit known for Quadrophenia and House of the Dragon, takes on the role of Sarrafian. Michael Fox, recognized for his work in Downton Abbey and the National Theatre’s Kerry Jackson, joins as Arthur. The ensemble is rounded out by Bill Caple, Michael Abubakar, Samuel Jordan, and Jojo Macari, among others.
This production promises a fresh sonic edge, featuring music by Nick Bicât and lyrics by Tony Bicât, with brand-new additional music and lyrics penned by Rebecca Lucy Taylor. Taylor returns to the West End following her critically acclaimed, extended run as Sally Bowles in Cabaret.
Teeth 'N' Smiles remains a trailblazing exploration of fame, disillusionment, and the raw power of the human voice. Fifty years after it first set the stage alight, this anniversary production is ready to burn things down all over again.
