The Old Vic has unveiled the full company for its highly anticipated production of One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, confirming that Michelle Gomez will take on the iconic role of Nurse Ratched. Gomez, beloved for her sharp-edged performances in The Flight Attendant and Green Wing, joins the previously announced Aaron Pierre (Rebel Ridge) as the rebellious Randle P. McMurphy and Olivier Award-winner Giles Terera (Hamilton) as Dale Harding.

Directed by Clint Dyer—celebrated for his work on Death of England and Othello—this bold reimagining of Dale Wasserman’s play (based on the Ken Kesey novel) is set to run from 01 April to 23 May 2026.

A Modern Lens on a Countercultural Classic

Dyer’s production promises to reignite the spirit of the original 1962 novel, reframing the story as a searing exploration of colonialism and the rigid social structures designed to silence dissent. While the narrative follows McMurphy’s disruptive arrival at a psychiatric facility, this staging places a significant lens on Chief Bromden (played by Arthur Boan), the long-silent observer waiting for a catalyst to reclaim his voice.

The ensemble features a wealth of talent, including Kedar Williams-Stirling (Sex Education) as Billy Bibbit, Javone Prince as Cheswick, and Jason Pennycooke as Martini.
