The highly anticipated world premiere of Pride, a brand-new British musical based on the beloved award-winning film, has officially announced its full company. The production reunites the film's original director Matthew Warchus (Matilda The Musical) and writer Stephen Beresford to bring this extraordinary true story to the stage.

A Star-Studded Ensemble

The cast features a wealth of West End talent, led by Samuel Barnett (The History Boys) as Jonathan, Jhon Lumsden as Mark, and Courtney Stapleton (Beauty and the Beast) as Steph. They are joined by Lewis Cornay as Bromley, Chris Jenkins as Gethin, and Caroline Sheen as Maureen, alongside a powerhouse group representing the two communities at the heart of the story: the London activists of LGSM and the residents of a small Welsh mining village.

Director Matthew Warchus commented, "I’m very much looking forward to working with such an outstanding group of performers to bring this remarkable and joy-filled true story to the stage."

From Protest Anthems to Welsh Choral Tradition

Set against the backdrop of the 1984 miners’ strike, Pride tells the inspiring story of the unlikeliest of alliances. The musical features an original score by Christopher Nightingale, Josh Cohen, and DJ Walde, blending protest anthems, pop, rock, and disco with the rich heritage of Welsh choral music.

The creative team is a "who's who" of British theatre, including Olivier Award-winning set and costume designer Bunny Christie and choreographer Lizzi Gee.

Cardiff Previews and London Run

Before arriving at London’s National Theatre, the production will return to its geographical roots for a preview run at the Sherman Theatre in Cardiff from 31 March to 18 April 2026.

The show will then strut onto the National’s Dorfman stage for a strictly limited summer engagement from 11 June to 12 September 2026.

Tickets for both the Cardiff and London runs are now on sale. Given the enduring popularity of the film and the pedigree of the creative team, theatregoers are encouraged to book early.
