The London Coliseum is set for a high-heeled transformation this spring as producers announce that multi-platinum recording artist and award-winning actor Matt Cardle will take on the lead role of Charlie Price in a brand-new production of Kinky Boots.
Cardle, who first rose to fame as the winner of The X Factor in 2010, has since established himself as a formidable West End leading man. Following acclaimed turns in Memphis, Strictly Ballroom, and most recently the UK tour of & Juliet, Cardle will lead the cast for a limited 17-week engagement from 17 March to 11 July 2026. The news arrives at a busy time for the star, who is also slated to release his new studio album, The Great Escape, on 10 April.
A Powerhouse Partnership
Sharing the stage with Cardle is Strictly Come Dancing favorite Johannes Radebe, who takes on the iconic role of Lola. In an exciting casting update, producers also confirmed that Tosh Wanogho-Maud—currently starring as Lola in the European tour—will join the London company as the Alternate Lola. Wanogho-Maud’s extensive credits include The Drifters Girl and Ain’t Too Proud, ensuring that the show’s legendary lead remains in expert hands throughout the run.
A Celebration of Individuality
Directed by Curve’s Artistic Director Nikolai Foster (Billy Elliot, My Fair Lady), this revival brings Cyndi Lauper’s Grammy-winning score and Harvey Fierstein’s heartwarming book to London’s largest stage. Based on a true story, the musical follows Charlie Price as he struggles to save his family’s failing shoe factory, only to find salvation in the form of a dazzling drag queen named Lola and her need for some very specific, very sturdy footwear.
"To lead a cast alongside Johannes Radebe at the London Coliseum is a huge honour," Cardle remarked. "Kinky Boots is a show I’ve loved for years, so to step into the role of Charlie Price is a dream come true."
Tickets are currently on sale for the production, which will also hold a week of previews at Curve, Leicester, starting 3 March 2026.
