The monumental journey through Richard Wagner’s Ring cycle continues this spring as Barrie Kosky and Antonio Pappano return to the Royal Opera House for the third installment: Siegfried. Following the massive critical and commercial success of Das Rheingold and Die Walküre, this production promises to be one of the most significant operatic events of 2026.

A Heroic Debut and a Stellar Return

The production marks a major milestone as world-renowned heldentenor Andreas Schager makes his long-awaited Royal Opera debut in the title role. Known for his immense vocal power and stamina, Schager leads a cast of "glittering" talent.

Familiar faces from the previous Ring installments return to the stage, including Christopher Maltman as Der Wanderer, Elisabet Strid as Brünnhilde, and Soloman Howard as Fafner. The ensemble is completed by Peter Hoare as the treacherous Mime, Christopher Purves as Alberich, and Wiebke Lehmkuhl as Erda.

From the Main Stage to the Big Screen

For those unable to secure a seat at the sold-out Main Stage performances—which run from March 17 to April 6—the Royal Opera is bringing the magic to a global audience. Siegfried will be broadcast live in cinemas on March 31, with encore screenings starting April 5. The cinema experience, hosted by Elle Osili-Wood, will feature exclusive behind-the-scenes footage and rehearsal films during the intervals.

Stephen Fry in Conversation

To kick off the celebrations, actor and broadcaster Stephen Fry will host a special event on February 13. He will join Antonio Pappano and Barrie Kosky in the Linbury Theatre to discuss the complex themes and creative inspirations behind this new production. This conversation will also be streamed live on the Royal Ballet & Opera’s YouTube channel for fans worldwide.

With Pappano leading the Orchestra of the Royal Opera House through Wagner’s absorbing, mythic score, Siegfried is set to be a triumph of modern operatic storytelling.
