The cast of Diva Productions' upcoming stage production of Calendar Girls recently embarked on a poignant journey to Rylstone, North Yorkshire, the small village that served as the remarkable birthplace of the true story that inspired the play and film. This intimate visit offered the actors a crucial connection to the heart of the beloved narrative.

Meeting the Legends
In a deeply moving meeting, the cast had the privilege of spending time with two of the original Calendar Girls, Angela Baker and Tricia Stewart. The real-life women, whose courage, humour, and unwavering friendship sparked a global movement, shared their story firsthand.

Hearing a narrative rooted in love, loss, aging, resilience, and the extraordinary power of community left a profound impact on all the performers. For the cast, this was more than research; it was an emotional core for their preparation.

"It was one of the most moving and memorable days of our lives," said Director, Andrew Ashley. "To sit with these women and hear how they turned personal grief into something so inspiring was incredibly humbling. It reminded us all why this story matters and why it continues to resonate with audiences everywhere.”

Honoring a Powerful Legacy
Following the visit to Rylstone, the cast traveled to nearby Kettlewell to explore some of the iconic filming locations from the 2003 film. However, it was their time with the original Calendar Girls—including the real-life counterparts of characters like Annie and Chris—that proved to be the emotional highlight.

This heartfelt experience will undoubtedly inform and enrich the cast’s portrayal, ensuring their production honours the legacy of the original women with the warmth, wit, and emotional depth the story deserves.

Diva Productions' stage production promises to celebrate life and the quiet strength found in ordinary people doing something extraordinary. It will be staged at St George’s Hall, Bradford from October 16 to 18, 2025.
