Following the recent fervor of the Eurovision Song Contest 2025, an exciting announcement has just dropped: the beloved Netflix motion picture, "Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga," is officially being developed into a new stage musical! Producer Lia Vollack revealed the project today, confirming a powerhouse creative team poised to bring the film's unique blend of heart, spectacle, and hilarity to the theatrical stage.

The musical will feature a book penned by the film's original co-writer Will Ferrell, alongside Harper Steele and Anthony King. Music will be crafted by Savan Kotecha, renowned for his work on pop hits and the Academy Award-nominated "Husavik (My Hometown)" from the film. Taking the directorial reins is Alex Timbers, a Tony Award-winning director known for his innovative and visually spectacular productions.

Will Ferrell expressed his enthusiasm, stating, "We are more than excited to bring Eurovision to Broadway. The stage musical is a perfect place to continue our celebration of all the things we love about this amazing and unifying song competition." Director Alex Timbers added that the film "buoyed spirits during a very dark time" and he "can’t wait to bring that same mix of heart, spectacle, irreverence, and awe to audiences across the world."

Martin Green CBE, Director of the Eurovision Song Contest, welcomed the news, noting, "This is a stellar team for what I am sure will be an equally stellar adaption... Our aim always is to bring the joy of the Eurovision Song Contest to more people globally – especially as we approach our 70th edition in 2026.”

The 2020 film, starring Ferrell and Rachel McAdams, chronicled the journey of aspiring Icelandic musicians Lars Erickssong and Sigrit Ericksdottir as they pursue their dream at the world’s most famous song competition. With its endearing characters and catchy original songs, including the Oscar-nominated "Husavik," the film resonated with audiences worldwide. This stage adaptation promises to expand on that joy, delivering the vibrant, inclusive spirit of Eurovision to theatregoers. Further details regarding production dates and casting are eagerly anticipated.
