The White Bear Theatre in Kennington is set to host a compelling double bill of new writing from Golden Age Theatre, featuring Ian Dixon Potter's thought-provoking plays "Hermione's Dinner" and "Toxic." Running from June 17th to June 28th, 2025, at 7:30 PM, these two distinct yet equally impactful pieces promise an evening of sharp dialogue and challenging themes.

"Hermione's Dinner" delves into the complex dynamics of friendship and societal expectations. It introduces Carla, a woman with a strong aversion to children, who attempts to rescue her old friend Roger from the maternal aspirations of Sue. An earlier iteration of the play was praised by Theatre Monkey with four stars, noting, "Ian Dixon Potter is back in Alan Bennett territory with the writing here" and acknowledging it as "A difficult subject to discuss without losing audience sympathy."

The second play, "Toxic," plunges into the murky waters of ambition, power, and morality. It follows Caroline, who, despite knowing Fletcher's predatory reputation in their profession, finds herself drawn into his orbit for career advancement. Reviews for "Toxic" have been overwhelmingly positive, with Theatre Monkey awarding it four and a half stars and commending Melanie Thompson's "engaging" performance. The reviewer highlighted the play as "Fertile ground for debate in a way similar to Mamet’s 'Oleanna' – where the lines and boundaries of morality are a valid subject for heated argument." London Theatre 1 gave it four stars, calling it "a thoughtful and compelling production" that offers "an interesting take on what it is to climb the career ladder whilst making compromises along the way." John Chapman of '2nd From Bottom' Online Theatre Reviews noted its clear commentary on the #MeToo movement, describing it as "a tightly scripted and thought provoking piece where the actions and morality of both key characters are called into question."

Both plays are written by Ian Dixon Potter and directed by Phoebe White, with a talented cast featuring Francesca Anderson, Melanie Thompson, and Stephen Connery Brown. This double bill offers a unique opportunity to engage with contemporary issues through the lens of compelling storytelling.

Don't miss "Hermione's Dinner" and "Toxic" at the White Bear Theatre, 138 Kennington Park Road, London SE11 4DJ. Tickets are available now for a limited run here.
