Kindliness is a new play deals with themes of tribalism, xenophobia & cosmopolitanism. It is a response to the many wars and social conflicts that we are experiencing worldwide. In an imaginary country, Malcolm is cheating on his wife with a young immigrant woman. When a war suddenly ensues, he needs to decide whether he wants to escape the violence with his new lover or with his wife & son. This play explores how people create the illusion of “the other” and questions whether achieving global compassion is at all possible.

The play has been described as “urgent and necessary,” “movingly funny,” and “at the heart of today’s zeitgeist.”

Directed by the renowned Jenny Eastop, founder of Mercurius Theatre and a three-time Offie Award nominee for Best Director, Kindliness is an urgent and thought-provoking play that addresses many of the critical issues shaping today’s global society. Please find the details below:
