This June, the Lyric Hammersmith is pleased to be hosting a variety of outdoor events and performances as Lyric in the Square, created by the Lyric for HammersmithLondon, returns for its seventh year. The west London theatre partners up with Far From The Norm, Zest - who are celebrating 10 years of producing eye-opening new work for young people, DanceWest and the Lyric Young Company to bring a host of free events to the Lyric Square.

Over the summer, Young Lyric, the Lyric’s programme of work for young people 25 and under, will be producing a wide ranging and varied programme of activities. These include: creating a new musical How to Fail at Being Perfect based on a dystopic version of Peter Pan set in 2030; creating a new film version of Hamlet (well sort of) and running a film project with the Tri-borough Virtual School, where young people will take on their own creative roles and learn from professionals in the industry. There will also be one week intensive courses for young people aged 7-9 and 9-11 to create their own performances with industry professionals.

In addition, the Lyric’s company of disabled and non-disabled young people, Journeys will create a new piece of work to be performed in the Lyric Studio, focusing on the hope and bright things we see ahead in our futures. The Lyric will also host two artists from Tangier, Morocco to create a new performance in collaboration with Tamasha Arts exploring how much we can communicate when we don’t share language. The final performance will involve a live feed with a group of young people in Morocco. Finally, The Royal College of Music will return for a second year to deliver their courses for young composers and musicians as well as installing a Gamelan in the Lyric foyer and hosting family and public sessions.

All Young Lyric activities are accessibly priced and are open to young people from all backgrounds in West London and beyond to allow them to experience high quality arts provision.

To top everything off this summer, the Lyric will be welcoming everyone to come and enjoy one of the hidden gems of west London, their beautiful HammersmithLondon Roof Garden, which is perfect for an after work drink, a bite to eat or to celebrate a special occasion with friends - even if the occasion is simply the arrival of the sun! It is also available to hire exclusively for larger summer celebrations and they have garden games, delicious cocktails, great music and sizzling hot food from our barbeque to make any occasion unforgettable.

And in June, they will be welcoming YogaBox and Lululemon for a series of pop ups on the Roof Garden. Together they will provide a heart-pumping workout bringing yoga and boxing into the same class, followed by healthy refreshments from the Lyric’s Bar & Grill. Events will take place on Monday 5 June at 7pm and Saturday 17 June at 10am. Head to the YogaBox website for details.
